Start Your Own T-Shirt Business

First, you need to open a business. This involves several things. Check along with your local Score office for details on how to start a business in your city and state. Fundamentally it will involve naming the business, obtaining the proper licenses, opening a bank account, obtaining a resale certificate (if necessary by your state) and coming up with a business plan.

Get creative. Research fashion trends and come up along with your design ideas. If your an artist you can do your artwork yourself. If not, discover a graphic designer to help you. In case you are screen printing your designs, keep in mind that each color of your artwork is a different screen. Check with the printing company you are using for further clarification. They can help get your artwork camera prepared. In case you know Photoshop, put each color or your design on a separate layer.

Purchase the t-shirts. That is right, plenty of companies use t-shirts manufactured by somebody else. Search blank t-shirt companies. When you find the company you need to buy from, call them & set up a wholesale account. Be sure to keep in mind the minimums necessary for printing when placing your order.

Get labels made. There's plenty of companies making different kinds of labels. You can then sew them in to your t-shirts or hire another company or employees to do it for you. Be sure to leave the care labels in the t-shirts.

You are prepared to go! Now you need to sell them. In case you are selling to retailers, you need to set your wholesale pricing and figure out a way to connect with buyers. This may involve visiting stores, promotion or going to trade shows. Selling directly to customers may involve selling in your own store or by your web-site.

Nice luck!
